Day 13: Tea Pot Mnt | Trunk Rock | Ubike | Fisherman's Wharf

While sitting above the fog on Tea Pot Mountain, it was real  clear  weekend  #2 was off to a great start.  10 feet up or 1000 feet up?  The views up here are supposed to be incredible (google it), but the fog created a pretty beautiful scene as well. I like the disoriented feeling of having no clue how high up I am.  We reached the view point around 11:00 and saw there was supposed to be sunny skies at noon so we waited at the top.  ...and waited...  Eventually we gave up. Once we came down to lower elevation we could see the ocean clearly.  It was amazing how the fog hovered over us.  You could almost see the exact point where the trail goes from clear skies to all clouds! The drive on the north coast was beautiful (this is just over 30 minutes from Taipei!) I can't believe we LIVE here this summer. People travel from all over the world for ocean views like this. Day 11 & 12: Language Exchange Partner | Tennis Champion

Day 11 & 12 Thursday  Since I will eventually run out of sight seeing to do in Taipei and I also don't want to spend the summer reading books I can read in the US, I found a "Language Exchange" group on Facebook and made a post. The response was great! Now I have too many people wanting to meet and practice English and teach Mandarin. This is Claudia. I think we are going to meet several times per week. She loves teaching "level 0" Mandarin and wants to improve her English. This is such a great opportunity for me to learn a new language! I am really excited to fill my time meeting new people and hopefully learning the most spoken language in the world.  Friday On Friday I went to the Mitsui Shopping Mall with Jason and Ben because they were driving to that area to meet a vendor. I didn't really want to shop but I just wanted to eat lunch and ride in the car with them. Ben was finishing Jason's sentences on the ride there.  ...

Day 9 & 10: Elephant Mnt | Taipei Zoo | Climbing | Just Dance

Day 9: Tuesday June 5th Hello! I will just give you a brief update on how Tuesday and Wednesday went. I probably won't post as often now that things which were once very shocking/amazing/foreign are  beginning to feel normal :)  Tuesday June 5th I took the MRT to the end of the Red Line to hike Elephant Mountain.  Taiwan is not a melting pot like America so I definitely stand out as being foreign everywhere I go. All I have to do is stand in front of a sign, menu or map for slightly longer than typical and someone will come talk to me! That day was no different and as I stared at the map of the trail system an older man came and explained which way to hike for the best view of Taipei 101.  I found him again at the top (how/when did he pass me?). He was sitting with his legs folded underneath him. He motioned for me to come sit by him, "you need to sit like this to get the lactic acid out of your legs."  I'm thinking "okay this ...
